Into the New Year

The Tuilleries on January 9, 2012 - notice the lack of heavy coats... or snow
Winter.  It's here. Well, it's supposed to be though I've not seem much sign of it in Paris. The temperature has steadily remained in the high 40's low 50's, and based upon the produce available most everywhere, you'd think we were in a summer cold snap.

Grapes and strawberries keep the winter Clementines company
This year end has been exciting what with writing for Bonjour Paris and new friends opening restaurants; Laura and  Braden of the famed Hidden Kitchen launched VERJUS by the Palais Royale. Camille Malmquest is baking up a storm at BLEND (amazing burgers on Camille's buns - I would say they're like back home, but I'd be wrong.. they are much better) Also, a couple of long standing staff members at a left bank favorite (Fish) have set out on their own adventure with ALBION. Also (happily for me) an EXCELLENT coffee house/roaster opened in the 7th: CAFE COUTUME.  Paris is ever grateful to Tom and Antoine for raising the bar.

Laura, pouring wine at VERJUS.

Camille saying hello at BLEND.

Antoine, the Best Coffee Roaster in France (He was awarded this title a few months back) roasting at CAFE COUTUME.

Matt and Hayden conferring at ALBION

2011 flew by... I don't know about you, but it was a crazy year for me and I'm not sorry to see it go. 2012 holds many changes (some causing a tad of anxiety) that said, I'm counting on life also being full of wonderful surprises for all of us.

The view I found waiting at the top of the Chartres Cathedral
I wish you all an abundance of the wonderful things in life:  Health, love, time with family and friends, great conversation and convivial meals.

Bonne Année et a Bientot,

Wonderful! Reading your stories is just like being there. And what great weather - last year at this time it was rainy, cold, and dark!

I just discovered your blog about all the wonderful French markets. We recently posted about our local market in Pont-Audemer, Normandy.
